How Much Does Plastic Surgery Cost in Mexico?
Prices for plastic surgery in Mexico run from $1,200 for eyelid surgery to $12,000 for a mommy makeover.
| Procedure | Mexico price range | US average surgeon fee (ASPS) |
|---|---|---|
| Breast augmentation (implants) | $3,500 to $6,000 | $4,900 |
| Breast reduction | $3,500 to $7,000 | $7,800 (cosmetic reduction) |
| Mommy makeover | $6,000 to $12,000 | No single ASPS average; it combines several procedures |
| Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) | $3,000 to $6,000 | $8,200 |
| Liposuction | $1,500 to $3,000 (traditional); Lipo 360, the whole midsection, $3,500 to $7,000 | $4,700 |
| BBL (Brazilian butt lift) | $3,000 to $5,500 | $7,300 |
| Rhinoplasty (nose job) | $1,800 to $4,000 | $7,600 |
| Facelift | $3,000 to $9,000 (mini to full facelift) | $11,400 |
| Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) | $1,200 to $3,500 | $3,400 upper lids; $3,900 lower lids |
The US figures are surgeon fees only. Each average “does not include anesthesia, operating room facilities or other related expenses,” according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Your full US bill would be higher.

Your price in Mexico rises with the number of areas treated and with combined procedures. Packages that add hotel nights, transfers and meals cost more than hospital-only packages. The implant type also changes the price of breast augmentation. Quotes tend to be lowest in Tijuana and highest in Cancun.
Why Do US Patients Choose Mexico for Plastic Surgery?
US patients choose Mexico for plastic surgery because of lower prices, a short trip, licensed specialists and ranked hospitals.
- Lower prices: For a tummy tuck, BBL, rhinoplasty or facelift, even the highest Mexico price is lower than the average US surgeon fee alone.
- Short trip: Tijuana borders San Diego, and Cancun and Mexico City have flights from many US cities.
- Licensed specialists: Mexican law requires specialty surgeons to hold a specialist license and a current certificate from their specialty council.
- Ranked hospitals: Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2026 ranks 59 Mexican hospitals.
What Do All-Inclusive Plastic Surgery Packages in Mexico Include?
Plastic surgery packages in Mexico usually include the surgeon, anesthesia, the operating room, and one or two hospital nights when you need overnight care. A cosmetic surgery vacation package adds some of the travel and recovery services below.
Sometimes included
- Coordinator: A bilingual coordinator.
- Recovery stay: Nights in a recovery hotel or a recovery house, a home set up for patients to rest after surgery.
- Local support: Transfers, meals, lab tests, compression garments and medications.
- Check-ups: Doctor or nurse visits during your stay.
Usually excluded
- Flights: Clinic packages leave out your airfare.
- Added stay costs: Extra nights and a companion’s costs.
- Further treatment: Added procedures, complication care and revision surgery.
Ask for a written quote that prices each of these items:
- Surgeon and procedure: The surgeon’s name and every planned procedure.
- Anesthesia and facility: The type of anesthesia, the surgical facility and the number of hospital nights.
- Recovery items: Compression garments, medications and check-ups.
- Payment: Accepted methods, the deposit and the date the price expires. Most clinics take a credit card or a wire transfer.
Tijuana, Cancun or Mexico City: Which City Fits Your Surgery?
Tijuana suits patients who want the lowest quotes. Cancun suits patients who want to recover in a hotel on the coast. Mexico City suits patients who want a city with many ranked hospitals.
Tijuana
Tijuana sits across the border from San Diego, so you can reach it by land. Many Tijuana surgeons operate in outpatient surgical centers, and patients rest afterward in recovery houses. No Tijuana hospital appears in Newsweek’s 2026 ranking, so ask whether your surgeon can admit you to a hospital if you need one. The land crossing back to the US accepts a US passport, passport card or enhanced driver’s license.
Cancun
Cancun is a resort city on the Caribbean coast, in the state of Quintana Roo. Cancun patients usually recover in a hotel. One Cancun hospital appears in Newsweek’s 2026 ranking. Plan a quiet recovery and skip sunbathing, alcohol, swimming, water sports and long tours, as ASPS advises.
Mexico City
Mexico City is the capital and has 14 hospitals in Newsweek’s 2026 ranking, more than any other Mexican city.
Is Plastic Surgery in Mexico Safe?
Yes, plastic surgery in Mexico can be safe. Surgery combined with travel adds risk, according to ASPS. Choose an accredited facility and a certified surgeon who has experience in your procedure, as ASPS advises.
Infection is the most common complication after cosmetic surgery abroad, according to ASPS. Infection-related problems are also the most common complications among all medical tourists, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC also notes that accreditation does not guarantee a good result.
Take these steps before your trip:
- See your US doctor: Book a visit with your primary care doctor well before the trip, and plan a travel medicine visit 4 to 6 weeks before you leave.
- Plan your follow-up: Find out where your follow-up care will happen.
- Get your records: Ask for your medical records in English for your doctors at home.
- Check the travel advisory: The US State Department rates each Mexican state separately. Read the current advisory for Baja California (Tijuana), Quintana Roo (Cancun) or Mexico City.
Who Should Not Travel to Mexico for Plastic Surgery?
Patients who have no US doctor to see them after the trip should not travel to Mexico for plastic surgery. That doctor checks your recovery at home and reads the records you bring back from Mexico.
How Do You Check a Plastic Surgeon in Mexico?
Check three things before you choose a plastic surgeon in Mexico: the surgeon’s specialist license, the council certificate and the facility’s license.
- Ask for the specialist license: Ask the surgeon for a copy of the specialist license, called the cédula de especialidad. Mexican law requires it for specialty surgery.
- Verify council certification: Ask for the surgeon’s certificate from the Mexican Council of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery (CMCPER). Look the surgeon up in the council’s online directory.
- Confirm the surgery setting: Ask where the surgery takes place and ask to see the facility’s license for surgery. COFEPRIS, Mexico’s federal health regulator, requires this license for clinics that do cosmetic surgery.
How Long Should You Stay in Mexico After Surgery?
You should plan to stay 7 to 14 days in Mexico after most plastic surgery, and longer after combined procedures. Your surgeon sets your flight date and gives you written clearance.
The usual waits before you fly are:
- Liposuction: 5 to 7 days, according to ASPS.
- Face procedures: 7 to 10 days, according to ASPS.
- Chest or abdominal surgery, such as breast surgery or a tummy tuck: 10 days, according to the CDC.
Long flights and surgery each raise blood clot risk, and the two together raise it further, according to ASPS.
